Telecommunication Systems for Offshore Platforms – Reach Integrated Chosen by Kencana for Deployment of Petrofac’s New Platforms

In 2004, Petrofac Developments acquired a 30% working interest in Block PM304, and assumed operatorship of the Cendor field development. Petrofac’s partners in the Production Sharing Contract include Petronas Carigali, Kufpec and PetroVietnam. The Cendor field, discovered in the 1970’s and classified as marginal due to its complex geological structure. The Cendor field is located in the northeast corner of Block PM304 in about 70  metres of water with principal producing horizons in the H Group of Middle Miocene sands. (Source – Media Releases)

Kencana Petroleum Berhad is one of Malaysia’s premier integrated solutions and services provider for the upstream oil and gas industry; providing engineering and fabrication services as well as hook-up and commissioning, onshore construction, offshore marine and drilling services. For the past few years, it has also expanded its business participations into oil and gas field development and production work. In March 2011, Kencana Petroleum’s wholly owned subsidiary – Kencana HL (KHL) was awarded an engineering, procurement and construction contract by UK operator Petrofac for the Cendor oilfield on Block PM 304, off Peninsular Malaysia. KHL will build two wellhead platforms for the second phase of the Cendor development project (or Cendor Phase II) and the project was valued at an estimated RM216 million ($71.3 million). Upon completion these wellhead platforms will be tied into a leased floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel which will be supplied by fellow Malaysian company MISC. Under this arrangement and less than one month after securing the Telecom Package for the Telok Gas Development Project, Reach Integrated has today being awarded by KHL to “Design, Supply, System & Local Testing, Pre-Commissioning and Offshore Commissioning” of various Telecommunication Systems for the Cendor Phase II’s CDW-A/B & CDW-C Wellhead Platforms.

Reach Integrated has been awarded the tasks of :-
a. linking the CDW-A/B and CDW-C Wellhead Platforms to the central production facility situated on board FPSO Cendor via subsea fiber optic terminals installed on these wellheads;
b. providing remote security & surveillance monitoring systems at the CDW-A/B and CDW-C Wellhead Platforms via its proven Closed-Circuit TV (CCTV) Systems; and
c. providing Zone 1 & 2 explosion proof telephony systems on board the CDW-A/B and CDW-C Wellhead Platforms via a network of telephony switches / gateways and Zone 1 / 2 explosion proof telephones (complete with beacons & sounders).
